Overview

Brackets, housings, and enclosures milled to print

Brackets, housings, and enclosures are the parts that hold the rest of an assembly in place. A mounting bracket that has to land in three planes against a bolt pattern set fifty years ago. An aluminum equipment housing that has to dissipate heat, seal against ingress, and accept a connector cutout from the back. A sensor enclosure that has to protect the electronics inside while presenting a flat, true datum to the system it bolts to. These are the parts where geometry, datum scheme, and hole-pattern accuracy do the work, and where a sloppy fit kills the assembly downstream.

Quick Brown Fox Solutions is the prime contractor on this work and routes production to our manufacturing partners, whose fleet includes 3-axis VMCs with envelopes from X 22 inch / Y 16 inch / Z 14 inch through X 32.5 inch / Y 20.5 inch / Z 20.1 inch and a full 5-axis machining center with a 19-inch round trunnion and an 18,000 RPM spindle when geometry demands it. Programming is reviewed against the drawing — partner programmers model the fixture and simulate the cycle before the spindle turns. CNC milling services and 5-axis CNC machining cover the full range of bracket and housing work, and prototype machining ships from the same equipment as production.

Specifications and Tolerances

What ships on milled brackets

Routine tolerances on milled brackets and housings ship at plus/minus .0002 inch on linear features, with hole-pattern true position controlled through single-setup machining wherever the drawing allows. The 5-axis cell in our production network handles compound-angle bracket geometries and undercuts in one fixture, eliminating the stack-up of multi-op work on prismatic equipment. Surface grinding is coordinated within the network for flatness-critical mounting faces. Bead blasting, vapor blasting, and tumbling are routine in the production network — anodize, chemical conversion (Alodine/chem-film), powder coat, and any other coating are handled by qualified finishers in the network.

Inspection is performed against the drawing on benchtop optical comparators and with calibrated hand gauging (height gauges, bore gauges, gauge pins, indicators on surface plates), and every lot ships with a documented inspection record under our manufacturing partners' ISO 9001:2015 quality program. For programs with hard delivery windows, production CNC machining on dedicated fixtures keeps cycle time and inspection predictable lot over lot.

Routine Tolerance

Plus/minus .0002 inch linear, true position controlled by single-setup machining.

Finishing

Surface grinding, bead and vapor blasting, and tumbling within the production network; anodize handled by qualified finishers in the network.

Materials

Materials run for brackets and housings

Bracket and housing work runs predominantly in aluminum CNC machining — 6061-T6 for general-purpose brackets, panels, and housings, and 7075-T6 for higher-strength aerospace and defense structural components. Alloy steel (4140, 4340) handles load-carrying brackets where weight is not the constraint. Stainless steel covers corrosion-service housings, marine work, and instrument enclosures. Engineering plastics are available where electrical insulation or chemical resistance is the driver.

Industries Served

Where these brackets ship

Custom brackets, housings, and enclosures ship into aerospace and defense structural programs, robotics and automation integrators, instrumentation OEMs, and any builder whose assembly needs a precision-machined part that lands flat and bolts true to its mating component.
